- They don’t fight often, but when they do it’s usually over the same thing— Octavia. Despite his best effort to convince Monty he wants only him Jasper always seems to fall just shy of it, and despite Monty doing his best to move bast it, its hard knowing Jasper loved someone else so hard for so long. It’s not until Jasper proposes that Monty lets himself fully trust in their relationship. In Jasper. At the wedding Octavia sits front row and smiles warmly at the newlyweds. Monty catches her eye just before they begin their vows and she winks at him. She always knew, come hell or high water, it would be those two in the end,
- They collapse on the couch after a long day of babysitting the Blake children. All three of them have their mother’s wit and their father’s determination and the combination of Clarke and Bellamy’s personalities can be tiring. Jasper pulls Monty into his arms and closes his eyes as he rest his chin on his husbands dark hair. Jasper grunts in question without opening his eyes when Monty whispers something he doesn’t hear. When Monty repeats himself his eyes fly open and he shifts to look Monty in the eye. Monty stares at him for a moment and then shakes his head before muttering for Jasper to forget all about it. He moves to get up when Jasper grabs his hand and tugs him back down gently. Monty hesitates, but settles back into their earlier position and waits quietly for Jasper to say something. He smiles into Jasper’s shirt when he finally speaks and hides his face when his husband looks down to him again. Jasper wants to be a father too. They fall asleep on the couch that night after a long conversation about their imaginary children.
- They’re in their forties and have all but given up hope of having a child of their own, but they spoil the Blake kids rotten and they tell themselves it’s enough. When the letter comes it sits unopened for days, both of them unable to take another disappointment. Late one night Jasper gets curious and decides he should at least see what it says, even if it hurts. He thinks to wake up Monty, but he figures if it’s the bad news they’re expecting there’s no reason to put him through it too. He moves silently through their tiny cabin house and unfolds the papers with shaking hands and a hope in his heart he thought he had long ago squelched. His eyes scan over the letter, but nothing sinks in until he reaches a name. The name of the three year old little boy who lost both his parents to the illness that had last swept through their villiages. A photo slips out from between the pages and Jasper feels tears of joy fall over his cheeks. He runs his finger over the photo lightly and smiles. A little boy with cherub cheeks and bright blue eyes stares back at him. His son. Their son. Finally.
